When your child is sick, you need answers quickly — and you need them from a doctor who already knows your family. At Happy Days Pediatrics, we offer same-day and next-day sick visit appointments for established patients, so your child is seen by Dr. Barakah Day, not a rotating urgent care physician who has never met your family before. There is a real difference between being seen and being known. Our sick visit model is built on that distinction.
We treat a wide range of acute illnesses and injuries in-office. When a concern requires lab testing, imaging, or specialist evaluation, we coordinate those next steps directly and stay involved throughout — not just for the sick visit, but for the follow-up as well.
Knowing when to come in and when to manage at home is one of the most stressful parts of parenting a sick child. When in doubt, call us. We would always rather hear from you and talk you through a decision than have you worry alone. Our team provides phone guidance during office hours for families who are unsure.

How do I request a same-day sick appointment?
Call our office at (210) 816-1330 as early in the morning as possible. We hold same-day sick slots each day for established patients. You may also submit an appointment request online and our team will respond promptly.
What if my child is not yet an established patient?
We make every effort to see new sick patients as quickly as possible. Call us and we will tell you our current availability. If we cannot see you same-day, we will help you identify the appropriate next step.
What is the difference between a sick visit and an urgent care visit?
At Happy Days Pediatrics, your child is always seen by Dr. Day — a physician who already knows your child’s history. Urgent care centers see whoever is next in the queue, often with no access to your child’s records. For non-emergency sick care, your child is better served here.
What if my child gets sick after hours?
For a true medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For urgent but non-emergency concerns after hours, we provide guidance on after-hours resources for our established families. We will discuss these options with you at your first visit.
Should I bring my child in or wait and see?
General rule: call us if your child has a fever over 104°F, is having difficulty breathing, appears unusually lethargic or unresponsive, is refusing all fluids for more than 8 hours, has a rash spreading rapidly, or if your instinct says something is wrong. Parental instinct is not overrated — we take it seriously.
Will you send my child's sick visit notes to their school?
We can provide a doctor’s note for school absence upon request. Please ask at check-out or call the office and our team will send one electronically.
